Yale replaced forwarding with YaleMail

Kept the address

Replaced forwarding with YaleMail — free Google mailboxes on @aya.yale.edu, capped at 5 GB.

What happened

Yale replaced forwarding with YaleMail: free Google mailboxes on @aya.yale.edu, capped at 5 GB.

The storage cap is the mechanism that makes this affordable. Google's alumni licensing is free when the offering is Gmail-only with Drive disabled, which is what removes the storage-cost objection that drove the first wave of these decisions in 2023.

How this bears on the question

Yale is one of several universities that treated a 5 GB cap as the answer to a cost problem, rather than treating termination as the answer. Duke switches off @alumni.duke.edu on January 31, 2027, and has announced no replacement address service.

This page is part of an independent record of university alumni email terminations, maintained by a Duke alum. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Yale or Duke University. Every row is sourced to the university’s own documentation where one exists, and this record has been corrected in public three times.
