Michigan kept alumni forwarding and repaired it
Kept the address
Retained @umich.edu forwarding for alumni at no charge, alongside U-M Google accounts.
What happened
Michigan retained @umich.edu forwarding for alumni at no charge, alongside U-M Google accounts.
Michigan's IT office describes the forwarding as provided “at no charge” and does not promise a term. That wording is Michigan's, and this site does not put the word “lifetime” in its mouth — on a site whose whole case is that a university broke a written promise, attributing words to another university that it did not write would be the exact error being objected to.
How this bears on the question
Michigan is one of the universities that kept forwarding working rather than concluding it could not be kept working. Duke switches off @alumni.duke.edu on January 31, 2027, and has announced no replacement address service.

This page is part of an independent record of university alumni email terminations, maintained by a Duke alum. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Michigan or Duke University. Every row is sourced to the university’s own documentation where one exists, and this record has been corrected in public three times.
