A claim this site removed

This row previously said Virginia Tech had “restored lifetime alumni email after advocacy,” sourced to alumni organizers. That was hearsay, attributed to organizers rather than to Virginia Tech, and wrong in substance. It was rewritten from scratch on August 30, 2026.

A version of the original claim appears in secondary reporting. Virginia Tech's own documentation does not support it, and this site does not lean on it.

How this bears on the question

Virginia Tech is an example of a Google licensing change being absorbed rather than passed on to alumni as a termination. Duke switches off @alumni.duke.edu on January 31, 2027, and has announced no replacement address service.
